When you make an enquiry by phone or email, I will contact you for an initial discussion. We can then arrange a mutually convenient time for an initial assessment meeting which usually lasts for an hour to 90 minutes. There is no need for any formal preparation for the initial assessment meeting, so simply attend with a willingness to express your issues and to ask whatever questions you may find useful. I will ask for some background information and invite you to talk in detail about what has lead you to seek therapy.
This is an opportunity for us to have a preliminary exploration into your concerns and to assess whether we might be right for working with each other. I will be pleased to provide details of alternative services if for whatever reason I am not the right practitioner for you.
If we do decide to work together, we will arrange regular session times and agree a fee.
To preserve the integrity of therapy sessions in which we feel free and safe to engage in a dynamic space, it is important that we agree how we will work together. By doing so, our sessions can focus on therapy and not on external or administrative matters.
I therefore ask clients to undertake a contract for therapy which confirms that we will work within the following broad framework:
Each session lasts 50 minutes.
Sessions are weekly and at an agreed time.
Sessions will be undertaken on a time limited or open-ended basis, whereby a recommended number of initial sessions will be agreed.
Sessions are normally conducted face-to-face and not routinely by telephone, Skype, e-mail, etc.
Breaks are pre-booked giving reasonable notice.
Sessions missed or cancelled less than 24 hours in advance for any reason are to be paid for in full.
Contact between sessions is limited to necessary diary arrangements.
The client will usually decide when to end open ended therapy giving a notice period commensurate to the length of therapy received.
The agreed fee is payable in advance of each session by bank transfer.
Our therapy sessions will be confidential and private within the law and the code of ethics of my professional membership bodies. I present my work for supervision which is also carried out on a confidential basis.
It is vital that you feel free and safe to talk about personal and sensitive issues. If there is anything that you do not want to talk about, I will respect that decision though it is usually helpful to explore with you the reasoning behind it.
I offer individual therapy for adults on a time limited or long term basis with appropriate reviews. The number of sessions required will depend on your emotional and psychological needs and I will offer guidance on the length of time you are likely to require.
